Prevent Holiday Fraud

Keep your holidays happy. Do what you can to prevent fraud. The holiday season is a time ripe for fraud. We are constantly using our credit cards and electronic banking for gifts, donations, end of year bills, and more. This increased use also means an increase in our vulnerability to credit card and bank fraud. There are some simple things you can do to minimize this risk.

Make sure your bank and credit card companies can easily contact you. Make sure they have your correct contact information including your mobile phone number and email address. Sign into your accounts to verify and if needed correct your information. Enabling them to contact you quickly when suspicious activity occurs is an effective way to stop fraud.

Use discreet user names and passwords for your various accounts. If one of your accounts is breached, you don't want your other accounts to be vulnerable as well. Review your user names and passwords with your various accounts to confirm they are unique.

Don't give out personal information to unknown callers! Your bank or credit card company will not contact you for your account number, social security number, PIN, or password. Be wary of requests through calls, texts, or emails for personal information.
